New 32-gallon garbage containers will be delivered to most households in Snohomish in the first weeks of May. Wheeled carts are more efficient and safe for garbage collectors, who have to manually lift regular garbage cans. Customers can still use their old cans for extra garbage, yard debris or recycling.
The cart system is part of a new city contract with Republic Services that took effect April 1. Garbage bills will now come directly from Republic every three months, rather than from the city every two months. Most customers will see a slight reduction in their rate when they get their first bill this month.
If you have a question or concern about your garbage or recycling service, contact contact Republic directly via their website or by phone at 425-778-0188. The company has online bill pay and a downloadable app to give customers easy access to their accounts for payment or service changes.
All the new carts look the same, but for customers who now use 20-gallon cans, the cart comes with an insert that makes it smaller inside.
