Washington State Extreme Heat Utility Shutoff Moratorium
The City of Snohomish has implemented a new procedure in compliance with The Washington State Extreme Heat Utility Shutoff Moratorium. This procedure is designed to protect you during periods of extreme heat by preventing utility shutoffs due to nonpayment.
This moratorium prevents utility shutoffs for nonpayment on any day for which the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat-related alert, such as an excessive heat warning, heat advisory, or excessive heat watch.
Water Shut-Off Moratorium Activation
The moratorium will be activated immediately upon notification of an extreme heat advisory, watch, or warning by the NWS. Any scheduled water shutoffs will be suspended for the duration of the heat-related alert. This procedure applies to all residential properties within the City of Snohomish.
Service Restoration Requests: Customers with suspended service due to nonpayment can request water restoration by:
- Calling, emailing (utilitybilling@snohomiswa.gov), or visiting City Hall during business hours.
- Calling the City during non-business hours (press “1” to report a utility emergency).
Resumption of Water Service Termination
Once the heat-related alert is rescinded or ends, the City will notify impacted customers at least 48 hours (about 2 days) before resuming water service termination.
