Marijuana Advisory Measure

Seeking Pro-Con Committee Members

Volunteer committee members are needed to develop pro and con statements for the Marijuana-Related Business Advisory Measure appearing on the November ballot for the City of Snohomish.

The Pro Committee will write statements in support of the measure (that is, to allow marijuana-related businesses) and the Con Committee will write statements in opposition to the measure (that is, to continue current prohibitions). Each committee will also have the opportunity to write rebuttals to the statements drafted by the opposing committee.

Committees may have up to three members who are residents of the City of Snohomish. The committees may use others inside or outside of the community as resources if desired.

Applications to serve on either the Pro or Con Committee are due July 5 at 4:00 p.m.

About the Advisory Measure

The City Council placed this measure on the ballot to seek the opinion of voters regarding whether marijuana related businesses should be permitted to operate in the City of Snohomish.  Existing City codes prohibit all marijuana-related retail, production and processing operations.

The ballot measure is non-binding and advisory.  Following the election, the City Council would determine if the vote warrants taking any steps to revise current City codes.

Primary Election Aug. 1

City Council and Mayoral Candidates

Five of the seven positions on the Snohomish City Council are up for election this year. Voters will also be electing a mayor. There will be a primary election in the mayor's race and for council positions 6 and 7 on Aug. 1. The top two candidates will then move on to the general election in November. Voter Registration

To register to vote in the state of Washington, you must be:  

• A citizen of the United States
• A legal resident of Washington state
• At least 18 years old by election day
